My name is Ryan Addario, and I’m running for City Council.
I am so grateful that you have taken the time to visit my site and read a little bit more about me, and why I’m in this race. The only way I can possibly do this is authentically, humbly, and with a completely open mind, heart, and ears. I’m glad you are here.
Burlington is my home. I have struggled in this town, and I have thrived here. I have rented and owned. I have loved and lost here. I have both celebrated joyously and marched with ferocity and frustration in the streets here. I have enjoyed the natural beauty of our waterfront, savored some of the best food and craft beer in the country, and seen some of the best live performances anywhere. For me, Burlington has been a place where I got to decide who I want to be, and feel like I had a role in shaping the kind of community I live in — but I am not running for me.
The Burlington that I exist in is not available to all of our neighbors.
Too many of our neighbors are without homes, and too many are barely holding on to theirs. Too many of our neighbors don’t feel safe or supported by law enforcement. Church Street is immaculate, but our public high school is condemned. Our beloved Lake Champlain looks stunning on Instagram and in postcards, but isn’t always safe for us to swim in.
I think we should do better, and I think we can do better.
I have spent my years as a young professional here in Burlington working for local non-profits on causes like affordable housing, and supporting survivors of domestic violence. I have taught dance and theatre in schools all over the region. Thanks to this, I have been lucky enough to have a window into what life can be like in this city that is very different from my own experience. I want to keep working toward the same goals, and keep helping our most vulnerable neighbors.
If we’re going to be known as a place where progressive values work, we should act like it.
I hope you’ll join me in that effort.
This site is brand new, and very much under construction. But the most important thing I can offer you is completely finished, and that is my contact information. I want to hear from you. I want to hear about your concerns, your questions, your ideas. I want to tell you about some of mine too. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let’s meet for coffee, set up a time to chat on the phone, or simply introduce yourself.
Thank you for visiting. Please be in touch, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
